Integral Psychograph Assessment™

"I rise to taste the dawn, and find that love alone will shine today."

~Ken Wilber

The theoretical concept of the Psychograph was developed by Ken Wilber as a result of comparing various psychometric test results that measure qualities over time in an individual. In addition to the Psychograph documenting psychometric test results, individuals can also use this as a tool for self-assessment. In her work, Dr. Esbjörn-Hargens suggests the use of the Psychograph as a clinical instrument to be used by psychologists and their clients in the therapeutic setting.

The Psychograph can be used in a number of different ways in a variety of contexts. In my clinical work, I propose three distinct uses of the Psychograph in the clinical setting: the Psychograph as map, matrix, and mirror, which together make up the Integral Psychograph Assessment. A third person method, the Psychograph as map is the documented descriptions of multiple levels and lines compiled from existing research describing various lines of development as well as from my own speculation regarding certain lines that have yet to be adequately researched. These descriptions of various levels of development across different lines are complied in a document called the Integral Psychograph Index, which serves as a central reference point in the Integral Psychograph Assessment. The map also includes the results of psychometric tests measuring various qualities over time in an individual. As an intersubjective or second person tool, the Psychograph as matrix includes the dialogue and process between the therapist and client as they explore the client’s self-assessment, as well as the psychologist’s assessment of the client’s multiple capacities. The Psychograph as matrix combines scientific research with the client’s own self-inquiry. The Psychograph as mirror is typically where the assessment process begins, and is a first person method where the client uses the Integral Psychograph Index as a tool for inquiry and self-assessment.

Should we work together and determine that the Integral Psychograph Assessment would be a beneficial component to therapy, the developmental lines that I am available to explore with you include:

  • Cognitive
  • Interpersonal
  • Self-identity
  • Moral
  • Values
  • Needs
  • Aesthetic
  • Psychosexual
  • Emotional
  • Somatic
Please note that the Psychograph as used in my clinical work is a tool intended to augment my overall assessment of you as well as your own self assessment. It is not a formal psychological assessment instrument that has been tested over time. Please inquire further with questions or interest regarding the Integral Psychograph Assessment.
